I FORGOT HER NAME

Have you ever fallen in love at first sight?
Have you ever had that love returned?
It was long ago for me.
I got turned around, lost track of reality.

She stood before me, hair languishingly riding the wind.
Her body shadowed by the horizon.
I met her arms with mine,
wishing this moment eternal.

I had no recollection of feeling this way.
My sorrows and hardships melted away.
I felt totally relaxed and safe in her arms.
She felt the same way.

We put our everything into each other.
It just wasn't meant to last.
A blinding light, and a roaring noise overcame me.

I sat up, looking around for her.
I realized, really rued, reality.

Tried my best, to hold onto the threads,
the memories that bound me to her.
Intangible, a fool's errand.
With each passing day, I forgot more,
and more.

No longer can I recall her face.
No longer can I recall her voice.
No longer can I recall her sway.

All that remains is a fragment.
A fragment of a far off dream.
I remember her hair, her embrace.
But a testament to the fool I am.

No longer can I recall her name.
